Cape Town to Namibia

This, one of our signature tours, shows off the splendour of the Arid region across two countries . We start from our home base, the ever popular mother city of Cape Town, and head north via massive canyons, a ghost town and towering sand dunes on an adventurous  2 000 km journey to Namibia's Etosha National Park.

Day 1  Arrive in Cape Town. Offer of an extra 3 day tour of the mother city.

Day 2  Travel to Langebaan and enjoy the Langebaan lagoon. In the afternoon we explore the West Coast National Park with its beautiful beaches and  home to migrant wading birds. Land viewing includes red hartebeest, caracal and eland whilst the ocean viewing may include dolphins and whales.

Days 3&4 We travel to and explore the Cederberg mountains with its fascinating rock formations, passes, san rock paintings as well as citrus and rooibos farms.  

Day 5  We drive to Namaqualand, the start of the arid area, famous for its carpets of flowers during the spring  from July till September. We stay in Kamieskroon at the entrance to the Namaqua National Park.  

Day 6  We cross the Namibian border at Vioolsdrif and head for the relaxing hot springs of Ais-Ais.  
Day 7  Take in the awesome sights of the Fish River Canyon, the second biggest canyon in the world and explore the Canyon Nature Park.
Day 8
  Next we travel the excellent gravel roads  to the  ghost town of Kolmanskop which has been infiltrated by the Sperrgebiet desert sands. From here its a short distance to the fascinating town of Luderitz with its many German influences.

Day 9  We travel along the southern section of the 49,800 km² Namib-Nauklift park to Sesriem where we overnight ready to explore the incredible dunes of Sossusvlei and Dead Pan.

Day 10  & 11  Once we get our breath back after clambering the dunes we head to the harbour town of Walvis Bay and then the nearby town of Swakopmund where we stay for 2 nights.

Day 12  Leaving Swakopmund we head to Engoro region, the most mountainous area of Namibia. 

Day 13-15  We visit the famous White Lady in the Brandberg on our way to the incomparable Etosha National Park where we will spend 3 nights.
Day 16  Heading back south we continue our wildlife viewing in the Waterberg Conservancy where rhinoceros, buffalo, antelope, leopards and cheetahs are to be found.

Day 17  Back to civilisation for the day when we explore the capital of Namibia, Windhoek.

Day 18  From the capital we head back towards South Africa stopping over near Keetmanshoop where go off to explore the quiver tree forest and giants playground.
Day 19  Today we cross the border and head to a stunning retreat close to Springbok.

Day 20  We are up early as its time for the long last leg back to Cape Town.

Namaqualand Spring Splendour

Experience the miracle of spring in Namaqualand when the seemingly barren ground erupts into a tapestry of unforgettable colours. The change is unbelievable and nowhere else on earth is there such a dramatic and colourful awakening to the changing of seasons.

Add to this the typical West Coast character and hospitality and our local knowledge of the flora and you have a memorable vacation.  

Day 1  From Cape Town we travel northwest past Melkbosstrand to Velddrift and the surrounding villages at the estuary of the Berg River. We continue up the West Coast to Lambert’s Bay with its world famous bird island, breeding site for Cape gannets and crowned cormorants.

Day 2  After further exploration of Lambert's Bay we head inland towards Clanwilliam and use this as a base to explore the northern end of the Cederberg mountains and dam.

Day 3 -4  Its a leisurely drive to Vanrynsdorp and Nieuwoudsville where we base ourselves at for 3 nights on a stunning guest farm overlooking the Ooorlogskloof canyon.
Day 5-6  We head towards Kamieskroon, via Garies, which is on the border of the West Coast National Park, and use this as our next base to explore the fascinating Nama Karoo. 

Day 7  Heading back south we take the lesser traveled road to Lutzville and Vredendal its intricate irrigation scheme that gives life to the Namnqualand vines,where we overnight.

Day 8  On the 300km trip back to Cape Town we pass the full magnificent range of the Cederberg and its rooibos and citrus plantations. 

For the 10 day tour we will spend more time exploring the Knersvlakte and Namaqualand with and extra night spent near Nieuwoudsville and Kamieskroon.
